US – Plans underway for 2020 opening for Saracen Casino Resort

By - 26 February 2019

The Quapaw Tribe has confirmed its intention to build a casino in Pope County at Pine Bluff in Arkansas, named Saracen Casino Resort after Quapaw Chief Saracen, who was buried in Pine Bluff back in 1832.

The move comes after Arkansas voters approved Amendment 3 authorising the state to issue casino licenses for the first time

The tribe has worked with local officials for the past five years in efforts to bring a casino to Pine Bluff. This proposal is supported by government leaders of both Pine Bluff and Jefferson County.

This will be the third casino owned by the Quapaw Nation. The tribe also owns the Quapaw.

John Berrey, Chairman of Downstream Development Authority, said construction will start once the State Racing Commission approves a license, which could happen in April.

He said: “We want to help make Pine Bluff better,” he said. “We want to create a destination for people to come from outside Jefferson County.

The aim is to open in time for Valentine’s Day in 2020.

“We will probably have a few soft openings before that, just to be sure everything is ready, but when we have the opening, it’s going to be a tremendous opening,” Mr. Berrey said.
