US – Rivers Casino Schenectady named top workplace for second straight year

By - 15 April 2019

Rivers Casino & Resort Schenectady is proud to announce that it has once again been named a Top Workplace by the Times Union.

The Top Workplace recognition is based entirely on results from a survey provided to employees and their opinions related to their work environment. This is the second year in a row that Rivers has received this distinguished award and follows the casino’s recent celebration of its second full-year of operation in February.

“Rivers Casino is a diverse and exciting place to work, and we are extremely proud to receive this distinctive recognition,” said Justin Moore, acting general manager, Rivers Casino. “The Top Workplace award is a testament to our team members’ unmatched commitment to making Rivers a special place to work, providing outstanding service to our guests, and giving back to the community.”

Rivers Casino received the honour on April 9 at the Times Union’s Top Workplaces event held at the Albany Capital Center in downtown Albany, NY. Team members were on hand to accept the award and enjoy an evening with other Top Workplace winners from across the Capital Region.

Rivers Casino employs more than 1,000 team members, who earn more than $43m in wages annually. The company provides a great benefits package; including tuition reimbursement, health insurance, paid time-off and immediate vesting in a 401(k) retirement plan.

“The Top Workplace award is really about the amazing team members we have who work hard each day to provide our guests the best experience possible,” said Kate McMahon, vice president of Human Resources at Rivers Casino. “Rivers is a place that celebrates diversity, encourages personal and professional growth and is focused on enriching the lives of our team and their families so that it doesn’t just feel like a job.”

“Being a Rivers Casino team member has been an amazing experience for me personally and professionally,” said Evelyn Tyson, wardrobe supervisor at Rivers Casino. “I never would have thought that I’d have an opportunity to be a supervisor anywhere. Rivers Casino made it possible for me to realize my dream of having a professional and stable career. I’ve learned so much during my time at Rivers; and most importantly, I’m able to provide a good life for my family.”

Much of what Rivers Casino does to enhance the workplace is centered around the people who work at the casino and enriching their lives as much as possible – making it more than just a job. For instance, Rivers Casino looks to its team members to help identify charitable organizations and causes to support throughout the Capital Region. Allowing team members to choose causes they are personally connected to elevates their passion and level of commitment.

During the first part of this year, the Rivers Casino team has volunteered nearly 600 hours to support organizations that are helping our seniors and military veterans, working to eradicate hunger, and providing the resources needed in the fight against cancer and other diseases. These organizations include the Alzheimer’s Association, Susan G. Komen, Habitat for Humanity, the SEAT Center in Schenectady and St. Joseph’s House in Troy.
