US – South Beach Casino & Resort gets site approval for South Mississippi project

By - 31 March 2023

South Beach Casino & Resort has received site approval from the Mississippi Gaming Commission for a future casino to be built at the Clermont Harbor development and Lakeshore area of Hancock County, making it the 13th casino on the Coast.

South Beach Casino & Resort would have 40,000 square feet of casino space, 1,100 slot machines, 25 table games and six poker tables. The Gaming Commission stipulates that all new casinos on the Coast must have 300 hotel rooms, at least 40,000 square feet of casino space, a fine dining restaurant and an amenity designed to offer something that will grow the local casino market.

The initial proposal for the 4-acre site was made just before Hurricane Katrina in 2005, which then oput the plans on the backburner for almost two decades.

Jay McDaniel, executive director of the Mississippi Gaming Commission, said: “This is the first time that the commission actually considered and approved it.”

South Mississippi already has 12 casinos in Harrison and Hancock counties with more proposed in Biloxi, D’Iberville and Long Beach.
