US – Table tennis becomes betting pacesetter for Rush Street Interactive

By - 30 March 2020

Table tennis has become the betting pacesetter across Rush Street Interactive sportsbooks in Pennsylvania and Indiana in the past several days.

First played in Victorian England in the 1880’s, table tennis has become a modern-day wagering leader to online gamblers denied March Madness and regular-season NBA and NHL access. The start of the MLB season, scheduled for last week, has been delayed.

Starting on March 22, table tennis has been the top sport bet on each day at both PlaySugarHouse.com and BetRivers.com in Pennsylvania. BetRivers.com in Indiana has reported table tennis as its top betting attraction for the last three days.

PlaySugarHouse.com in New Jersey has been approved for pre-match betting and is now available for players. Pennsylvania and Indiana properties are cleared for pre-match and live in-game betting.

Betting action is available with games in the early afternoon each day, and running through the evening. The average time of scoring one point in table tennis is between four and eight seconds and the duration of the game is one-to-three minutes, with an abundance of betting opportunities available.

The sport moves quickly enough to keep bettors and spectators interested. Interest in betting on Table Tennis on BetRivers.com and PlaySugarHouse.com has been helped by the fact that the TT Cup (tt-cup.com) and Setka Cup (Setka-cup.com) are both being lived streamed on the official organisers’ websites, links which the operator also has shared with its players.

Table-tennis matches are five games. Each requires 11 points to win and victory must be by at least two points. They are best-of-five battles. The events feature in-game betting opportunities to go with the moneyline, point spread, game-by-game and point races already established.

“Ping Pong has the same characteristics as popular betting sports like tennis or baseball, but the game is faster,” said Mattias Stetz, C.O.O of Rush Street Interactive, which operates PlaySugarHouse.com and BetRivers.com. “It is a perfect game for live betting in that it starts and stops all the time, with very fast changes in momentum.”
