US – The Deaf Poker Tour coming to Live! Casino and Hotel Philadelphia

By - 9 May 2022

The Deaf Poker Tour brings its unique brand of poker competition to the Poker Room at Live! Casino & Hotel Philadelphia for the first time this month. The multi-event tournament will run from Thursday, 12 May – Saturday, 14 May.

The Deaf Poker Tour was created in 2006 by a group of six friends who wanted to bring together the best hearing-impaired poker players around. Since then, deaf players from across the country converge at each tournament to play in a setting that allows them to hone their skills and enjoy their passion for poker together. This seasonal tournament has made appearances at casinos in Las Vegas, Atlantic City, Maryland, and now in Philadelphia.

The tournament provides sign language interpreters and writing materials at each table to help assist conversations between players and dealers. The tournaments are also unique in the way dealers are required to be trained in sign language in order to run the game. Many of the dealers and pit managers at the Live! Poker Room are welcoming the challenge to learn a new skill, meet new customers, and participate in an event that keeps growing because there are no barriers in communication.

“We’re thrilled to host The Deaf Poker Tour for their first tournament in Philadelphia,” said Anne Tran, Director of Poker at Live! Casino & Hotel Philadelphia. “It is truly inspiring to see so many people with an affinity for the game communicate in a different way than we’re used to in the Poker Room. The tournament provides us with the opportunity to bridge the gap between the hearing world and the deaf community and we’re very proud of it.”

More than 100 players are expected to participate in seven events over three days.
