US – War Horse Gaming opens Nebraska’s first casino

By - 27 September 2022

War Horse Gaming has opened Nebraska’s first casino with a temporary, 433-slot casino at the Lincoln Race Course Thoroughbred in Lincoln.

The venue will give way to the full $200m casino and hotel complex, which is expected to open in a year’s time with a casino with more than 1,100 slots machines, 100 table games, sportsbook and both live and simulcast horse racing. The final build out will include several dining options, including a high-end steakhouse, sports bar, café and others. It will include a roughly 200-room hotel and a three-story parking garage as well.

Lori Thomas, Chief Operating Officer for the Nebraska Horsemen, said: “For us, it’s about bringing a new source of revenue to Nebraska. Watching all these people be happy is just the icing on the cake. We’ve worked so hard to get to this day that it’s unbelievable, it’s a dream come true.”

Lance Morgan, CEO of Ho-Chunk, said: “It’s a big day, we’ve been working on this for years, and to finally just be able to open the door. It’s a modest start, but we’re gonna build a big facility around it. It’s just a taste of what’s to come. We’re thrilled to have reached this point. It’s been a long road getting here since the voters approved the initiatives back in 2020, but we’re very excited for all the opportunities WarHorse Lincoln will bring to the community and look forward to delivering on our promise of keeping the money in Nebraska.””
