US – Wind Creek confirms $190m investment in Bethlehem

By - 17 March 2019

Wind Creek Hospitality, the new owners of the Sands Bethlehem Casino in Pennsylvania will spend $190m renovating the property with one of the first things to cvhance being the casino’s iconic red crane sign.

The Sands logo on the crane will be replaced with Wind Creek’s following approval last week from the Bethlehem Planning Commission. The redevelopment will include an investment of around $100m on creating an indoor water park and a further $90m on building a 300 room hotel.

Wind Creek, the gaming arm of Alabama’s Poarch Band of Creek Indians, also confirmed that Sands Bethlehem’s current President Brian Carr will stay on with the company following the sale.

Wind Creek bought the casino from Sands for $1.3bn, a property that includes a diamond hotel, retail mall, 183,000 square foot casino with 200 tables and 3,000 slots.

Jay Dorris, President and CEO of Wind Creek, said: “We think we can diversify the appeal of the property in the area. So we’re looking for what we could add that would be appealing to people who may not be coming today but would be interested if we could give them the right thing.”

Wind Creek operates nine gaming properties, in Alabama, Nevada, Florida and the Caribbean.
