US – Wynn tipped to offload Wynn Interactive at market price

By - 25 January 2022

Wynn Resorts has says suggestions that it is about to offload Wynn Interactive, including the WynnBet sports app at a price of just $500m compared to a market valuation of US$1bn as ‘market speculation.’

Fanatics and Penn National Gaming’s Penn Interactive are expected to be likely bidders for the company. In May Wynn axed plans to merge its online division with Austerlitz Acquisition Corp.

Wynn stated then: “In light of elevated marketing and promotional spend in the sports betting industry, we are pivoting our user acquisition efforts to a more targeted ROI-focused strategy. In so doing, we expect the capital intensity of the business to decline meaningfully beginning in the first quarter of 2022.”

CEO Matt Maddox has previously said: “The market is really not sustainable right now. Competitors are spending too much to get customers. And the economics are just not something that we’re going to participate in.”
