Vietnam – Vietnam casinos want government to let locals play

By - 2 March 2021

Casinos in Vietnam want the government to amend gambling laws to allow locals to play to help the sector bounce back after the downturn caused by the global pandemic.

Local media outlet VNExpress International highlighted that operators in Quang Nam and Ba Ria – Vung Tau had petitioned government for the law change. Currently only two casinos in Vietnam are allowed to let locals gamble with only Corona Resort & Casino in Phú Quốc currently doing so.

Corona attracted 105,000 players in 2019 with 45 per cent of them being local. Vietnam has eight casinos which generated revenues of VND2.5tn in 2019.
