France – Luchon looking for new operator

By - 15 August 2013

Having gone into liquidation last month, the Grand Casino de Bagneres de Luchon, located in the south west of France at the foot of the Pyrenees, has now closed the doors to its operation.

The Commercial Court of Toulouse rolled the dice and ended an 11-month operation by the company Grand Casino Bagneres de Luchon, announcing the liquidation. The company, the only candidate to have responded to the call for tenders launched a few months ago, had been entrusted with the management of the establishment in Luchon last August. The mayor of Luchon Louis Ferre said: “We have evidence that indicates that some serious acts were committed in the management of the company that seem incompatible with the management of a casino. Since May 31, bankruptcy proceedings against the company have been committed and the Commercial Court decided on a remedy for the company.  Luchon City can only regret the serious and irresponsible behaviour by certain shareholders of the company which led to a huge mess. The results of the first months of operation confirm the viability of the model. I understand that the delegate has not operated for some time. The municipality of Luchon is now again at square one with no casino to lead the spa season. A delegation of public service will be launched as soon as possible. It will once again, try to find a serious delegate to bring the venue to life.”

Michel Montsarrat, President of the local branch of the trade union UMIH, added: “At least the municipality will be able to recover the building and start looking for buyers. This time, we must strive to find serious people. It is very sad to see the casino go through this rough patch at the beginning of the season.”
