France – Online Gaming Control Authority (ARJEL) signs sports betting agreement

Charles Coppolani, President of the Online Gaming Regulatory Authority (ARJEL) and Thierry Pujol, Director of Sport Integrity at the FDJ and Vice-President of the Global Lottery Monitoring System (GLMS), a non-profit association governed by Swiss law, have signed an online sports betting agreement.

29 national lotteries mobilised against the manipulation of sports competitions, signed a memorandum of understanding on May 15, 2017.

These two organisations are involved in the struggle for the preservation of the integrity of sports betting: Charles Coppolani chairs the monitoring training of the French National Platform to Combat the Manipulation of Sports Competitions and GLMS has set up a system for systematic monitoring of sports betting. Sports betting atypical in certain sports disciplines with the 29 national lotteries partners including the FDJ for France.

The central objective of the Memorandum of Understanding is to organise exchanges of information concerning the taking of atypical bets between the two structures, each of which has a monitoring system on sports competitions.

The sports matches monitored by GLMS and listed on the “sports” list of ARJEL, which summarizes the competitions and the types of results that can serve as support for online sports betting on the French approved market. Exchanges of information will include the volume of bets, the probable outcome and the geographical distribution of bets.

This new agreement reinforces the fight against the manipulation of sports competitions in connection with betting.
