Holland Casino turnover down 4.1 per cent in 2024 with gambling tax rising to €222.6m
Holland Casino finished 2024 with a turnover of €784m, a decrease of €33.7m or 4.1 per cent compared to 2023, meaning the Dutch operator ended a financially challenging year better than expected.
The result before corporation tax was down €1.3m, compared to a positive of €31.9m in 2023.
Holland Casino Online’s revenue amounted to €85.2m, down from €116m in 2023.
CEO Petra de Ruiter: “Despite the result and the challenges ahead, 2024 was a good year and I am proud of the organization. We remain fully committed to safe and responsible gaming and we have made very good progress in this area this year as well. I think it is important to emphasize that prevention is and remains human work. Safety and responsible gaming require sufficient investment space.”

Holland Casino sees the increased number of visits to 5.2 million, a sign of appreciation from the guests for the offer. The casino is also praised by peers. For example, the Venlo branch was named Best Casino in Europe and Utrecht was honored for its sustainability initiatives.
In total, Holland Casino paid €222.6m in gambling tax in 2024. Holland Casino calls on the government to scrap a further proposed increase as of January 1, 2026. The second increase in the gambling tax to 37.8 per cent in 2026 and State Secretary Struycken’s vision of an even safer and more responsible gambling policy do not go together. With a total tax burden of well over 50 per cent of turnover, this is not achievable.
De Ruiter added: “If we look ahead to 2025, we see that in the first quarter with the measures taken, turnover will remain more or less the same. With the – sometimes painful – cost-saving measures taken, we believe that the stretch is largely over.”
By 2024, significant progress will have been made in further professionalising and improving prevention and anti-money laundering. For example, Holland Casino has chosen to stop offering 24/7 games of chance in its branches (Rotterdam and Amsterdam-West), a new risk detection system for online gaming has been introduced, a new process has been developed to be able to follow up signals of potentially immoderate participation in games of chance or risks of gambling addiction more quickly, and the public information has been simplified to language level B1. The prevention advisory group has also been strengthened.
