Ireland – GameAccount Network CEO honoured amongst business elite

By - 24 October 2014

Dermot Smurfit, CEO of GameAccount Network has been honoured at the prestigious 2014 EY Entrepreneur Of The Year programme which recognises the achievements of Irish entrepreneurs based in locations throughout the world.

Mr. Smurfit, who joined GameAccount in 2002 and has overseen its development into one of the UK’s fastest growing tech companies, was named runner-up in the International category, an achievement which was officially recognised at an Awards Gala held in Dublin last night (October 23).

Known globally as the leading business awards programme for entrepreneurs, EY Entrepreneur Of The Year which also includes categories dedicated to Emerging businesses and Industry, identifies, profiles and celebrates entrepreneurial trailblazers, for their dedication to excellence, innovation and ingenuity.
Dermot Smurfit said: “A little less than 12 months ago GameAccount Network was one of only a handful of companies permitted to launch on Day One in New Jersey’s then newly regulated Internet gaming market. What was a superb example of innovation, ingenuity, expertise, commitment and teamwork, set the tone for what has turned out to be a transformational year for the company on so many levels. To be shortlisted alongside such an elite group of business leaders and then to finish runner-up, is a further honour not just for myself but for the entire GameAccount Network team working out of our UK, Italian and US offices. There’s no doubt that we can look forward to the challenges and the opportunities that lie ahead with a large measure of confidence and excitement.”

EY’s Frank O’Keeffe, Partner-in-Charge of the Entrepreneur Of The Year programme, said: “We’d sincerely like to thank all of the phenomenal businesses that entered this year’s programme. Through the support of the programme, our aim is help our finalists continue to grow robust businesses, stimulate job creation and stay ahead of the curve well into the future.”
