Italy – Global Daily Fantasy Sports launches with Lottomatica

By - 22 January 2018

Global Daily Fantasy Sports has launched its Italian facing DFS (Daily Fantasy Sports) network with Lottomatica, the Italian brand name of IGT.

Darcy Krogh, CEO of Global Daily Fantasy Sports, said: “We are very excited with the launch of our Italian facing DFS network and look forward to working with our partners to innovate and build daily fantasy sports in Italy, which is one of the largest gaming markets in Europe and is growing exponentially. 2018 will bring new opportunities with the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia and the addition of new customers to join our DFS network in Italy.”

The provision of Global’s DFS product to the DFS Network with Lottomatica acting as the network head enables Italian gaming operators to join the network and pool their user databases together to create much larger prize pool offerings and increase contest fill-rate. Lottomatica DFS network has access to a registered user database that exceeds 30m players. In 2017, Lottomatica represented approximately six per cent of the Italian online sports betting market1.

In 2016, Italy generated €1.3bn in online gambling revenues, €350m was specific to online sports betting, which was a 31 per cent increase from 2015. This elevated Italy to Europe’s second largest online gaming market ahead of both France and Spain, and trailing closely behind the UK, which is otherwise regarded as the global benchmark for the online gaming industry. In 2017, it is estimated that Italy generated approximately €1.4bn in online gambling revenues with online sports betting representing €500m or 36 per cent of the total revenue and a further increase of 43 per cent in online sports betting from 2016.
