Italy – Improved start to the year for San Remo

By - 4 March 2014

Italy’s San Remo casino recorded its second, consecutive month of gain in February with Gross Gaming Revenue up 1.4 per cent year-on-year to €3.3m.

The slots accounted for €2.5m of that total. So far in 2014, the casino has grossed around €7m, up an impressive 18 per cent on 2013’s figures. The split between slot and table revenue is remaining fairly constant with €5.1m being generated by the slots and €1.9m from the tables.

The casinos’ owners said that the Sanremo Festival 2014 was extremely positive in terms of promoting the corporate image of the casino and boosting attendance in its theatres. Despite the bad weather, which disrupted the air and rail communications, the effect of the Festival on the casino was highly positive and saw a number of French players, who had been missing for some time, return to the casino.

President of Federgioco, Marco Cambiaso, a Director of Casino Spa, said: “At the beginning of February we would not think of being able to close the month with a better result than last year. We experienced difficulties in all displacements due to bad weather, including interruptions to the railway line in Andora and adverse climatic conditions. The festival, however, was stronger and demonstrated once again that it can be a catalyst.”
