Japan – Pro-casino governor gets fourth term in Wakayama

By - 26 November 2018

The western Japanese prefecture of Wakayama remains on track to get a casino with pro-casino Governor Yoshinobu Nisaka winning a fourth consecutive term in the local elections.

During his campaign, Mr. Nisaka emphasised that he wanted casino gaming to boost tourism.

“The negative effects of having a casino can be prevented. I will explain its positive sides to the citizens,” he said. We want Wakayama to become a tourist destination. There are many rich people from Asia and Europe who will stay in a resort for a long time. In the evenings they may gamble. This sort of leisure past time has become quite trendy. Marina city in Wakayama should become this kind of place. First there is the Oceanside leisure, it is a place of extreme culture and it is very close to major tourist airports. It is close to Kyoto, Oska, Kobe and Nara. When you think of tourism comprehensively it I amazing that some people think casinos should be banned. This is what I have thought for some ten years now and that’s why I’m working as hard as I can. We have the infrastructure and we are ready to invest.”
