Spain – Every vertical going up in Spain’s online sector

Online gaming in Spain generated turnover of €2.9bn in the fourth quarter, marking an increase of 13 per cent over the third quarter of 2016, and a 20 per cent on last year’s fourth quarter.

Sports betting generated €1.27b in Q4, marking an increase of 7.7 per cent from the same quarter in 2015 whilst casino was up 54 per cent to €1.2b, bingo was up 16.7 per cent to €18.8m but poker declined by seven per cent to €415.6m.

The results published by the General Directorate for the Regulation of Gambling Affairs (the DGOJ), highlight how there has been an increase in the amounts gambled in all types of games.

The number of active users registered during the fourth quarter of 2016 has increased over the previous quarter by about 12 per cent, and by 17 per cent over the same quarter of 2015. The number of registered users during the fourth quarter has increased to 600,000 users, representing a decrease of eight per cent compared to the previous quarter.

Sports betting accounts for 44 per cent of the revenue with poker making up 14 per cent, casino 40 per cent and bingo for 0.65 per cent.

Online slots accounted for 36 per cent of all online casino spending and 46.7 per cent of casino revenue but didn’t infringe on other casino spend as roulette spending revenue saw an increase of 32 per cent with live roulette up 62 per cent. Online blackjack revenue increased by 66 per cent to €6.4m. The most popular form of online betting was In-play betting which generated 56 per cent of online sports betting revenue in the fourth quarter.
