Spain – Real Madrid evaluating casino option
By Phil - 18 June 2013Real Madrid is looking at how it could bring a casino licence into its Santiago Bernabeu stadium in a move it believes would boost profits by €120m.
The Spanish footballing giant is keen to model a revamped and renovated Bernabeu on the Madison Square Garden in New York which has successfully exploited new revenue streams including a shopping mall, a hotel and other leisure amenities. President Florentino Perez is considering proposals for a casino, a hotel and a shopping mall whilst various sport betting options are also being analysed by the club. It is keen to be able to match the spending power of European football’s nouveau rich; namely Chelsea, Manchester City and Paris Saint Germain. Madrid officials however want the club generate any extra income itself with extra amenities to attract spend away from match days.
