Tourism Authority of Thailand hosts meeting with MGM China

By - 17 June 2024

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has reportedly met with Pansy Ho, Chairperson and Executive Director of MGM China Holdings, prompting TAT Governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool to say that MGM China was looking to promote Macau tourism to Thailand whilst considering casino investment in the country.

Speaking to the Bangkok Post, Kiatphaibool stated that Thailand stood a good chance of attracting casino investment, adding that a project by a global operator would stimulate tourism from China, Southeast Asia and the Middle East.

Iwan Dietschi, Senior Vice-President of hospitality at MGM China, highlighted the Thai opportunity as being one of its its top priorities as Thai customers at MGM hotels in 2024 had increased 30 per cent over the last year.

MGM China took part in the Experience Macao Roadshow in Bangkok tourism event organised by the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) last week

MGM Resorts CEO and President, Bill Hornbuckle, has previously said of the Thai casino prospect: “Obviously, it’s fully within the government’s control and hands at this point. The dialog to date has been encouraging. We will see. The cost to do business there, the margins that could be had would be compelling. I don’t want to get ahead of that curve.”
