UK – Sky Betting to invest £11m into new jobs

By - 11 November 2015

Sky Betting & Gaming (SB&G) plans to invest £11m into creating 200 new jobs and opening a new customer hub in Leeds city centre.

100 jobs will be based in Leeds, primarily in the technology and contact centre teams, and 100 will be based at the recently opened Sheffield Technology Hub at the Electric Works.

This investment means that in the next 12 months the company will employ more than 900 people across three sites in Yorkshire comprising its Leeds Headquarters, Sheffield Technology Hub and the new Leeds Customer Hub where all customer facing aspects of the business will be sat together for the first time.
The recruitment drive will be supported by a £250,000 marketing campaign that highlights SB&G’s challenging, fast paced and exciting, working environment.

Chief Executive Richard Flint said: “With the business performing well we have decided that now is the time to significantly increase our investment in people and facilities. This is a vote of confidence not only in our own plans to make betting and gaming better but also in the health of the Yorkshire economy.”

The £11m investment will be spent this financial year on 200 new hires primarily in the technology and contact centre teams as well as the launch of a software academy and a commercial academy with spaces for 20 people in each. A new Customer Hub will be created in Leeds city centre site.

Leeds City Councillor Judith Blake said: “This is fantastic news for the city and further evidence of Leeds’ strength as a digital hub. We’re delighted that Sky Betting & Gaming continues to invest in job opportunities here and the rest of Yorkshire.”

Claire Braithwaite, Head of Tech North said: “Sky Betting & Gaming’s creation of 200 more jobs in Sheffield and Leeds is fantastic news and demonstrates the strength of growth of tech businesses in the north of England and the quality of the talent pool we have here. With 180,000 people already employed in digital tech in the north of England this figure looks set to grow over the coming years and at Tech North we will be working with government, business and educators to support the development of a strong pipeline of tech talent in the region.”
