US – Horseshoe pays out two $1m prizes to players with the same name

By - 14 August 2013

The Horseshoe Casino in Cincinnati has paid out twice after competition organisers blundered and awarded the official US$1m prize to a man with the same name as the winner.

Having realised they had two men on their database with the same name and similar profiles, management at the Ohio casino decided to pay out the $1m prize to both men. They had already welcomed the wrong winner onto stage to received his life changing amount before realising that he was the wrong ‘Kevin Lewis’ despite being the same age, also engaged, a casino regular and a city resident. The prize came as part of a $3m Summer Giveaway promotion. The wrong Kevin Lewis had already been awarded a giant check and had a picture taken with casino staff.

Horseshoe Cincinnati Senior Vice President Kevin Kilne said: “This was our blunder. So consistent with our commitment to do the right thing for our guests, Horseshoe awarded a $1m prize to each of the men.”
