US – Maryland Live! the top performer in mid-Atlantic

By - 19 June 2013

Maryland Live! Casino has once again taken the top spot in the mid-Atlantic gaming market for May 2013, generating record revenues totalling $55,056,385 and outperforming all regional competitors, including the leading properties in Atlantic City and Pennsylvania.

It beat off competition to finish ahead of Borgata, Parx, Sands Bethlehem and Caesars in new Jersey.

Compared to other facilities in Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania and New Jersey, the property’s total net gaming revenue was more than 16 per cent higher than the next competitor. The results mark the strongest revenue month to date for Maryland Live! Casino, which celebrated its 1st Birthday on June 6. May also marks the first full month of operation to include both slots and table games.

One of the largest casinos in the country, Maryland Live! Casino is currently under construction to add a new, state-of-the-art Poker Room with more than 50 traditional poker tables and a dedicated tournament floor. Poker opens at Maryland Live! this Summer 2013.

Maryland Live! Casino is owned and operated by The Cordish Companies, which is actively vying for the final available gaming license in the City of Philadelphia, where it has proposed to develop a $425m Live! Hotel & Casino in the Stadium District in partnership with Greenwood Gaming. In addition, the Company has applied for a Category 2 license in Massachusetts and is currently in the process of evaluating several sites within the State as possible locations for the casino.

“The revenue results continue to be in line with our projections,” said Joe Weinberg, Managing Partner, The Cordish Companies. “Our success at Maryland Live! demonstrates the best-in-class standard of operation that we employ at all of our gaming resorts and entertainment districts across the country. We look forward to the opportunity to leverage our expertise in creating dominant destination casino resorts in other gaming jurisdictions throughout the country.”

On average, the State of Maryland receives approximately $1m per day in taxes from Maryland Live! Casino.
