By - 14 December 2015

Bloomberry Resorts is the latest name to be linked to the future resort casino planned for Cyprus.

The Philippine operator is believed to have added Cyprus to its expansion wishlist that already includes Korea and Argentina.

The company, belonging to Enrique K. Razon Jr., a Filipino billionaire who owns International Container Terminal Services, is the operating force behind Solaire in The Philippines Entertainment City.

A total of 12 major companies from the USA, Philippines, Cambodia, Russia and France have now formally expressed their interest in the Cyprus licence.

These casino operators paid €10,000 each for the option to bid. Formal expressions of interest (EOI) started on September 18 and will end on December 18, 2015.

Operators involved in the process include Hard Rock, NagaCorp, Genting and Sun International.

Another bidder, Bouygues of France, is now believed to be a joint consortium with Accor Hotels and Barriere. French construction group Bouygues Batiment International is a 22 per cent shareholder in Hermes Airports Ltd, which operates Larnaca and Paphos airports.

Another newcomer to the process though is Russian’s Absolute, a company that owns banks land, commerce and previously operated a casino in Russia.

The resort casino will have at least 100 gaming tables and 1,000 gaming machine. The operator will have the option to develop, in addition to the ICR, up to four satellite casino premises, in districts other than the one where the ICR will be located. Each will be licensed for the operation of up to 50 gaming machines per location. One of these locations may exercise an additional option to operate up to five gaming tables.
