Australia – ACMA moves to block nine illegal gambling websites

By - 20 January 2020

The ACMA (Australian Communications and Media Authority) is set to request Australian internet service providers (ISPs) block nine illegal offshore gambling websites and is urging Australian users of these sites to withdraw their money now.

The sites to be blocked are Roo Casino, GW Casino, Wager Beat, Joe Fortune, Ignition Casino, Casino Dingo, AuSlots, Top Bet
and Xbet

More than 79 complaints have been submitted to the ACMA about these services, which are available in Australia. ACMA investigations found these services to be operating in breach of the Interactive Gambling Act 2001.

The move follows the blocking of Emu Casino in November 2019 which has since exited the Australian market and is allowing Australian customers to withdraw funds through its customer support. Website blocking is one of a range of enforcement and disruption options the ACMA uses to protect Australians against illegal gambling services. More than 90 illegal companies have pulled out of the Australian market since 2017 when the ACMA started enforcing new illegal offshore gambling rules.

The ACMA publishes a Register of licensed interactive wagering services so that consumers can check the services are legal in Australia.
