Austria – Part owner of OPAP interested in Casinos Austria

By - 29 June 2015

The Epic Consortium, that purchased a 33 per cent stake in Greek gambling operator OPAP, is believed to be interested in the majority takeover sale of part state-owned Casinos Austria.

Headed by Viennese investor Peter Goldscheider, Epic would control 49 per cent of the deal, with Mr. Goldscheider, holding two to four per cent, with the rest being divided between two Czech groups led by Karel Komarek and Jiri Smejc.

Casinos Austria owns 12 casinos in Austria as well as lottery business Österreichische Lotterien, which includes Lotto, EuroMillions and Rubbellos scratch-off tickets as well as the WINWIN Video Lottery Terminals (VLT) outlets.

Mr. Goldscheider said that the consortium wanted to build a ‘leading European enterprise engaged in gambling.’

“We are very well prepared, we are doing something for 14 months,” he said.

Casinos Austria and Austrian Lotteries Group achieved record results in 2014 with revenues for the year in excess of €3.6bn, an increase of 2.3 per cent compared to the previous year.
