Belgium – Namur to become a casino resort

By - 30 March 2016

One of Belgium’s leading casinos is set to become a resort with the operator looking to invest €18m in a hotel, spa and meeting rooms.

Once it is fully operational in 2020, it will be the first of its kind in Belgium.

The venue will be renamed the Namur Casino Resort to reflect its grandeur evolution. Owners the Ardent Group (formerly the Circus group) will oversee the development of a 4-star Mercure hotel with a spa center, including a sauna, jacuzzi and three massage rooms, as well as a fitness center. It will also include meeting rooms and a show room. The hotel will have 97 rooms.

Ardent Director Emmanuel Mewissen said: “The current major challenge is to compete with online casinos that cannibalize casinos. There are no borders online. So we have to survive and offer a unique experience. You have to dream again; hence the idea of resort. These new facilities will be launched in 2019, if all goes well. The start of construction is scheduled for November 2016. Our players can rest assured that the casino will not close during the work.”
