The Catawba Nation has revealed plans to develop two additional casinos in North Carolina, signalling its intention to expand its gaming footprint beyond the US$1.2bn Catawba Two Kings Casino Resort currently under construction in Kings Mountain (pictured).

Speaking about the tribe’s long-term strategy, Catawba Nation Chief Brian Harris said locations for the two proposed casinos have already been identified, although further details have not yet been disclosed.

The announcement comes as work continues on the permanent Catawba Two Kings Casino Resort, which is expected to become one of the largest gaming destinations in the southeastern United States. The integrated resort will feature a casino with thousands of slot machines and table games, a hotel, restaurants, entertainment venues and meeting facilities.

The Catawba Nation has operated a temporary gaming facility at the Kings Mountain site since 2021, with the permanent resort representing a significant expansion of the project.

While no timeline has been announced for the two additional developments, the plans underline the tribe’s ambitions to establish a broader gaming portfolio within North Carolina.

The proposed expansion also reflects continued momentum in the tribal gaming sector across the United States, where operators are investing in new casino developments and integrated resort projects to meet growing regional demand. If realised, the additional casinos would further strengthen the Catawba Nation’s position in what remains a tightly controlled and politically sensitive gaming market.
