Chile – Marina del Sol boss says industry is united against SCJ stance

By - 14 July 2020

Nicolás Imschenetzky, the President of Chilean casino operator Marina del Sol, has said the company’s casinos in Talcahuano, Calama and Osorno due to the new stance taken by the Superintendence of Casinos for Games with regards to the relicensing of the country’s 14 casinos.

The Undersecretary of Finance, Francisco Moreno wants to postpone the new bidding process for operating permits for the 14 casinos, awarded in 2006 for a year, and relaunch them with a raft of new operating instructions, including a five per cent tax increase.

Speaking to Chilean news outlet Bío Bío Chile, Mr. Imschenetzky, said: “The Superintendent speaks of two parallel processes taking place, one according to the old procedure for the renewers, and the other for the applicants. This duality does not exist, because in the bidding process it is appropriate to apply a single standard for all, which is the one that existed when we were granted operating permits. Therefore, we see that it is a rather artificial and legally based discussion that the SCJ is creating. What we want is for the law to be respected and, as the current regulations indicate, for the rules existing in 2005 to be applied to the process of license renewal, with which we calculate and define the investments we make. All the members of the Chilean Association of Gambling Casinos are united and reject the way the Superintendency wants to carry out the next tender.”
