Finland – Sarekoski appointed Veikkaus CEO

Following on the heels of the announcement that Finland’s gaming monopolies would be merged into the single operator, Veikkaus, the head of the organisation has been named as Olli Sarekoski. Mr. Sarekoski has been appointed as the CEO of Veikkaus, having served for Finland’s lottery and betting company as Executive Vice President for the last eight years.
Mr. Sarekoski commented that Veikkaus will have to establish itself among Finland’s residents from the outset, noting that consolidated gambling operator needs to address the challenges of digital competition and respond both adequately and responsibly.
It was announced last year that Finland has decided to merge its three state-run gambling organisations (Raha-automaattiyhdistys or RAY,which was in charge of the casino options offered in Finland, Veikkaus Oy, the national lottery and betting operator, and Fintoto Oy, the company behind Finland’s pari-mutuel offering.) into a single entity. Veikkaus, will officially commence operations on January 1, 2017.
