The first casino in French Guiana will offer 100 slot machines and three traditional gaming tables

The casino-theatre in Cayenne in French Guiana will open its doors on November 5, the COGIT group announced.

Operated by Caysino, a subsidiary of the Martinique-based group, which holds the public service concession for a period of 20 years, it will be the first gaming establishment in French Guiana.

Spanning 2,800 square meters, the casino will feature 100 slot machines, 20 electronic table games, and three traditional gaming tables: two for blackjack and one for English roulette. It will also include a restaurant, a lounge bar, and a performance hall with seating for 400 and a standing capacity of up to 700. The investment is estimated at approximately €35m.

Gilles Defert, CEO of the COGIT Group said: “Our teams are currently being integrated and trained to be ready to welcome our first visitors in the best possible conditions. This is a symbolic project for Cayenne and French Guiana.”

A program of free entertainment, including games and musical performances, will accompany the casino’s opening from November 6 to 8.

The Cogit group, the fifth-largest casino operator in France, already operates the four casinos in the West Indies, as well as three gaming floors in France, in Cherbourg, Lacanau and Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie. After the opening of the Cayenne casino-theatre, the West Indian group will continue its expansion with the future Lion d’Angers casino, in Maine-et-Loire.

“This is an important step for our group, which has chosen to invest sustainably in this territory and build an establishment designed for its residents as well as its visitors,” said Henri Ernault, Chairman of the COGIT group. He also praised the partnership with the municipality, which will allow for the opening of a venue combining gaming, dining, shows, and entertainment.

Sandra Trochimara, Mayor of Cayenne, said the casino-theatre was ‘probably the most important tourism project of the last 20 years in French Guiana.’ The elected official particularly said its location would contribute to the revitalisation of downtown Cayenne and its outlying neighbourhoods.
