Germany – Baden-Württemberg casinos enjoy their best ever year in 2019

By - 2 March 2020

Revenues at the three Baden-Württemberg casinos; Casino Baden-Baden, Casino Konstanz and Spielbank Stuttgart grew by 18.7 per cent in 2019, recording their best ever results with a turnover of €107m.

Otto Wulferding, Managing Director of Baden-Württembergische Spielbanken, said: “This not only overcomes the magic limit of €100m, but also achieved the best results in our history so far. Thanks to the results, the three locations ranked second among the strongest casino companies in the federal states. In front of the casinos in the south are only Westdeutsche Spielbanken GmbH with four locations in the most populous state of North Rhine-Westphalia and the Bremen casino belonging to the group.”

“With all the competition from online gambling, our visitors appreciate the feeling of life and gaming in the casinos. They want the live atmosphere in the casinos and honour the competence of our employees who give the game a face,” Mr. Wulferding added.

Attendance was up 8.3 per cent with the Stuttgart casino having the largest increase in visitors with 10.3 per cent more guests, up to 295,383. Baden-Baden’s attendance was up six per cent to 229,810 whilst the casino in Constance was up eight per cent to 110,895. This generated the highest growth of casinos in the southwest, up 23.5 per cent with the Stuttgart casino achieving about half of the total with €53.3 m. Baden-Baden generated €30.4m up 19.7 per cent whilst and Constance accounted for €23.4m, up 8.6 per cent.

Mr. Wulferding added: “The positive trend is solidifying in the casinos. The state-licensed casinos are betting that, within the framework of the new gambling law, they can go one way to preserve gaming culture even in times of digital transformation.”
