Germany – Lotto Rheinland Pfalz celebrates 75 years of lottery operation
Lotto Rheinland-Pfalz will be 75 years old this year.
To celebrate, Lotto Managing Director Jürgen Häfner was able to welcome numerous members of the state parliament from all parliamentary groups to a parliamentary evening in the state parliament restaurant “Rheintisch” in Mainz. State Secretaries Dr. Stephan Weinberg (Ministry of Finance), Nicole Steingaß, Simone Schneider (both Ministry of the Interior) and Michael Hauer (Ministry of Climate Protection) were also present.
In addition, many friends of the company attended, including representatives of the beneficiaries from the sports and cultural sectors and from numerous associations and social initiatives and business partners. Special guests of honour were the lottery winners Karin Tietze-Ludwig, FranziskaReichenbacher and Miriam Hannah.
“If only doing good was always so easy. At LottoRheinland-Pfalz, six small crosses are enough for this – and have been for 75 years,” said Matthias Lammert, Vice President of the State Parliament, pointing out that since the company was founded in 1948, more than six billion euros have been raised for the common good.
“Lotto Rheinland-Pfalz is not only an important company in our state, also as a taxpayer and employer, it is also an important pillar of oursociety.” This is where the company differs from other providers in the gambling sector: “This is not about maximizing profits, but about strengthening the commongood.”
Lotto Managing Director Jürgen Häfner agreed, who also thanked the company for the appreciation it receives from politicians: “We are pleased that what we have been doing for the general public for decades is also being noticed here in the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament.”
Häfner reported to the guests that in addition to the six billion euros that have been paid to the common good since 1948, more than eight billion euros have also been distributed to the games and players in the form of profits. 504 people became millionaires through Lotto Rheinland-Pfalz in these 75 years, the highest prize was €63.2m in the Palatinate.
“For 75 years, Lotto Rheinland-Pfalz has been there for everyone in our state. We also want to take on this important task in a changing gambling market and look forward to the challenges of the coming
years,” said the managing director, who was also pleased that the Mainz court singers provided musical accompaniment to the evening. Captain Christoph Clemens reported on the numerous joint concerts with Lotto Rheinland-Pfalz, through which more than two million euros have been raised for social purposes since 2007.
The presence of the approximately 100 guests at the Parliamentary Evening underlined the solidarity with the company, which sees itself as a partner of sport, promoter of culture and supporter of social initiatives and climate protection projects. Consequently, exemplary projects from the various funding areas were also presented in order to underline the commitmentof the gambling company.
Minister-President Malu Dreyer stated in a video messageas part of a new corporate film that many important projects in Rhineland-Palatinate would not have been possible without the support of the Koblenz-based company. The Prime Minister said: “Lotto Rheinland-Pfalz is a jackpot for our state. I hope that the company will continue to make our country more beautiful and better for the next 75 years.”
“Lotto Rheinland-Pfalz is not based on the principle ofprofit maximization, but focuses on the common good. The majority of the bets of the participants flowback to the general public. The proceeds
are also used to promote public or charitable, ecclesiastical or charitable purposes,” said the Chairman of the Supervisory Board, State Secretary for Finance Dr. Stephan Weinberg.

This was also confirmed by Rudolf Storck, President of the Palatinate SportsFederation and Chairman of the Lotto Shareholders’ Association: “We benefit in sport, we benefit in our clubs, our athletes benefit It was simply an incrediblygood thing that Lotto Rheinland-Pfalz was founded.” Bernhard Sommer, Chairman of the Board of Kernhaus AG, with whom Lotto Rheinland-Pfalz has been supporting the very successful cyclingteam “Lotto-Kernhaus” for years, also agreed.
