Germany – Rhineland-Palatinate launches tender for new casino in Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler

By - 29 October 2019

The Ministry of the Interior of Rhineland-Palatinate has issued an invitation to tender for the operation of a casino in Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler along with satellite casinos in Bad Dürkheim and Nürburg for the period from January 1 2022 to December 31 2031 with a one-time extension possibility for a maximum of five years.

The permit will be granted on the basis of a public tender in an administrative procedure under the Casino Act. Interested parties have the opportunity to apply for permission to operate a casino in Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler and satellites in Bad Dürkheim and Nürburg.

Unlike in other states, casinos in Rhineland-Palatinate are not state-run, but run by private companies. Therefore, a Europe-wide tendering procedure is required for the granting of the permit. In 2017, permission was given to operate the Mainz/Trier/Bad Ems casino following a procedure.

In Rhineland-Palatinate there are two casino groups with a total of six venues. In addition to the casino Bad Neuenahr with satellite casinos in Bad Dürkheim and Nürburg Nürburgring, there is Casino Mainz with satellites in Trier and Bad Ems.

Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler is located in the Ahr valley on the banks of the Rhine river in the north of Rhineland Palatinate in the west of Germany.
