Germany – Spielbank MV to spend €4m transferring its Rostock licence

By - 7 February 2022

German operator Spielbank MV has said it will spend €4m transferring its licence in Rostock, the largest city in the German state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, to the former Niemann car dealership on Petridamm.

The current casino has been described as providing ‘rather cramped conditions’ at the Kabutzenhof.

Thomas Fritz, Managing Director of Spielbanken MV, said: “Unfortunately, further expansion is not possible in the inner-city location, which is why we looked around for new premises.  We need a larger and, above all, more easily accessible location.”

The new location, just before the Vorpommernbrücke offers good connections to the autobahn with optimal conditions here. The games of poker, roulette and blackjack is also to be offered here, which is unique in the whole of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The new premises in the former Niemann car dealership should, on more than 1200 square meters, offer space for an event area and a larger bar in addition to the significantly expanded play possibilities.

Mr. Fritz added: “With the new location and its possibilities, one wants to attract players from all over Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania to Rostock. In addition to poker tournaments, cultural events, especially live music and performances by comedians, are also planned. In addition to the offer, the good transport connections and sufficient parking spaces in the immediate vicinity of the casino should also help here.”

Spielbanken MV expects the casino to open in January 2023. The previous location will be closed when it reopens on Petridamm.
