Port Moresby launch will see casinos return after 20 years

Pacific Pearl Casino is set to open in Papua New Guinea, when it will become the first casino on the island for almost two decades.

The boutique casino will open with 20 tables, 100 slots and a VIP area. It will be located close to the Port Moresby city centre in the Paga Hill Special Economic Zone.

The venue is being developed by Chinese company Paga Hill and Fortuna Investments, which will oversee the casino’s operations.

Fortuna Investments worked on the opening of Tiger Palace in Nepal and operates the Jade Club in Vietnam. It has also worked with the Palace Casino at JPark Island Resort and the now-closed Tinian Diamond Hotel Casino in CNMI.

With an estimated 5,000 slot machines already in operation on the island, Pacific Pearl Casino expects to draw players from locals, as well as expats from Australia and New Zealand, as well as Chinese

When approving the casino a few years ago, Prime Minister James Marape said its primary goal was ‘attracting international visitors and residents’ and to provide an alternative to local gambling spend that was being spent in Australia, Singapore and Manila.
