Philippines – Emerald Bay faces delays in Philippines

The Emerald Bay gaming and hotel resort on Mactan island in Cebu, Philippines, is hoping to open ‘in the first quarter 2022,’ according to its developer PH Resorts Group Holdings.

Building work on the project began in December 2017 and the project was supposed to open this year but has now been delayed. Designed by Paul Steelman, The Emerald Bay will cover 13.5 hectares of prime beachfront property on Mactan Island in Lapu-Lapu City. It will boast a 838-room 5-star hotel, 8,000 square meters of shopping, 18 restaurants, a convention center and a 7,585 sq. m. casino with 146 gaming tables and 1,186 slots.

The property is being built by Udenna Development Corporation (UDC).

“The group expects to commence the hiring process in respect of the Emerald Bay’s gaming and hotel operations and fill a number of managerial and administrative roles within the company’s principal office in the fourth quarter of 2021,” the group stated.

The group is also at the design stage of another project refereed to as The Base, in Clark Freeport Zone, which will be on land its unit Clark Grand Leisure Corp currently leases from Global Gateway Development Corp. It will offer 600 electronic gaming machines, approximately 100 gaming tables, several hotels with approximately 400 rooms, and a retail and restaurant complex.

“Each of the group’s integrated resorts will be designed, planned and developed according to world-class industry standards,” it added. “These are expected to expand the integrated tourism resort and casino offering in the Philippines.”
