Philippines – Online gaming to help fund Philippine COVID recovery

Having previously been opposed to online gambling, Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has now said that the online gaming sector will help boost the country’s Covid-19 response funds.
In a pre-recorded meeting with his political party officials, President Duterte said: “We don’t have money. Now that we need money, the most sensible thing is really just to encourage those activities.”
Around 60 Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) have secured licensed to operate in the Philippines. Last year, three major casino groups in Manila were given licences to run online casinos.
