Resorts World Las Vegas has appointed Brian Sandoval as chairman of its board of directors. Sandoval, a former Nevada governor, currently serves as president of the University of Nevada, Reno. His previous roles include chair of the Nevada Gaming Commission, Nevada attorney general and U.S. District Court judge.

The announcement follows news that Jim Murren, the outgoing chair, will transition to chairman emeritus. Murren was recently appointed interim chief executive officer of the United Arab Emirates’ General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority. The casino did not provide additional comment on the board changes.

Resorts World Las Vegas, owned by Genting Berhad, formed its board late last year ahead of resolving a regulatory violation in March that resulted in a $10.5m fine and new anti-money laundering compliance requirements.

Since that settlement, the property has undergone several leadership shifts. Chief executive officer Alex Dixon, who served less than five months in the role, has become a senior adviser to the board. Carlos Castro, who joined as chief operating officer and chief financial officer shortly after Dixon’s arrival, has been named property president. Both Dixon and Castro previously held roles at MGM Resorts International.
