UK – Gambling Commission Executive Director of Operations to open EAG Safer Gambling Hub

By - 5 January 2023

Kay Roberts who was appointed Executive Director of Operations at the Gambling Commission in September 2022 has accepted an invitation to open the Safer Gambling Hub at the forthcoming EAG taking place at ExCeL London. The Hub, which is a new feature on the EAG show floor, will be officially opened at 11am on the 10th January.

Prior to joining the Gambling Commission Kay Roberts enjoyed a successful career as Head of Operations for Ombudsman Services where she had leadership responsibility for the delivery of dispute resolution for the Communications, Energy and Parking sectors. She worked for local government for over 15-years and has a degree in consumer protection.

Announcing details of the opening, EAG Chairman Martin Burlin said: “I’m delighted that Kay Roberts has accepted our invitation to open the Hub and participate in what will be her first time at the leading trade exhibition for the UK’s low stake gambling, entertainment and amusements sectors.

“Safer Gambling is what our industry practices day in day out and its central importance to the business will be reflected on the EAG show floor courtesy of the Safer Gambling Hub and the associated EAG Seminar session entitled Safer Gambling – How To Improve Engagement With Customers.”

The Hub will feature leading not for profit organisations including Betknowmore, Breakeven, ESG Gaming, GamStop, GamCare and YGAM as well as bacta and the Gambling Commission.

Bacta CEO John White believes the Safer Gambling Hub will serve as a ‘go-to’ at-show feature for everyone wanting to learn more about the latest thinking in safer gambling and meet with some of the leading authorities in the space.

He stated: “For some time we have gifted space to safer gambling organisations participating in EAG but this will be the first occasion that we have brought everyone together in a dedicated Hub. Bacta members and the land-based industry in general continue to make huge advances in delivering a safer gambling experience and helping to reduce the proportion of consumers experiencing problems to their current record low levels.”

EAG’s Safer Gambling Seminar (2pm – 3pm, 10th January) will bring together experts in the field to discuss the progress the industry has made in modernising its customer engagement and what steps can be taken to augment current practice to best in class.

Participants will include Dan Whitlam (Gamcare), Ian Shanahan (YGAM), Matt Smith (Betknowmore), Melissa Etherington (Gamban), Rob Mabett (Gordon Moody), Lee Willows (ESG), Fiona Palmer (Gamstop) and Ian Semnel (Breakeven).
