UK – Genting is first recipient of GamCare Safer Gambling Standard

By - 22 July 2019

Genting UK has been awarded GamCare’s Safer Gambling Standard, the social responsibility quality standard for the gambling industry.

The first gambling operator to receive this accolade, Genting UK has achieved the highest level of the standard for both its land-based and online businesses following a thorough assessment of its working practices.

The achievement is recognition of the organisiation’s long-standing commitment to creating a safer gambling environment for its customers and the continuous improvement in the area of minimising gambling harms.

This approach included trialing different ways of identifying and interacting with customers who may be exhibiting behaviors that indicate they may have a problem with their gambling or be at risk of developing a gambling problem.

The organisation’s social responsibility measures were tested through on-site and remote assessments of the website and back office systems, plus interviews with staff and management at all levels and at different locations within the company’s land-based and online business operations.

President and Chief Operating Officer of Genting UK Paul Willcock said: “We’re rightly proud to have achieved this standard which highlights our commitment to creating a safer gambling environment and its importance to us at every level of the business. But now’s not the time for us to standstill on this matter. To ensure we deliver against our long-term strategic aim of eliminating gambling related harms we must continually review our responsible gaming measures and ensure they remain amongst the most robust in the industry. The well-being of our customers is our highest priority and we want them to enjoy playing in safe and responsible environment.”

The Safer Gambling Standard recognises operators who exceed the requirements of gambling industry Licensing Codes and Conditions of Practice (LCCP). The Standard comprises 10 sets of assessment criteria for social responsibility for both online and land-based gambling businesses, developed and updated each year out of the available evidence, industry best-practice, and input from those who have experienced gambling related harm. The Standard is awarded at an entry level and at three Advanced Levels, giving operators a clear roadmap for improvement.
