US – Churchill Downs secures site for new historical racing machine entertainment venue

Churchill Downs has secured a site in eastern Daviess County, outside of the Owensboro city limits, to build its previously announced historical racing machine entertainment venue as an annex of Ellis Park Racing & Gaming.
This new facility will support purse funding for Ellis Park race meets. The company will provide updated development and investment plans, as well as the location of the property, in the coming months.
Churchill Downs bought Ellis Park in 2022 and is planning to spend $75m on the racetrack and the future Owensboro gaming and simulcasting center.Â
In 2019, CDI bought and rennovated Turfway Park into a racing and gaming facility, which reopened this month. Historical Horse Racing machines have also performed well in Louisville at Derby City Gaming. Outside Kentucky, over the past year CDI has signed a deal to buy Colonial Downs in Virginia, which has HHR machines.
