By Phil - 26 June 2014
Manitoba’s newest casino, the US$20m Sand Hills Casino in Western Manitoba, has opened in Carberry, between Winnipeg and Brandon, marking the third First Nations-owned casino to open in Manitoba.
The 31,000 sq. ft. casino features 350 slot machines, table games, a restaurant, lounge, and live entertainment.
Profits will be equally shared by all 63 Manitoba First Nations.
Assembly of Manitoba Grand Chief Derek Nepinak said: “After many years of working towards a casino in Western Manitoba, we’re very proud to open a business that will benefit all First Nations in the province.”
The venue employs 175 full-time employees with 60 per cent of these being aboriginal.
