US – Related Companies updates $12bn casino blueprint for Hudson Yard

By - 26 February 2024

Related Companies, who is partnering with Wynn Resorts in a bid to develop a casino complex in New York City’s Hudson Yards, has revealed further details behind its $12bn plan.

The development’s blueprint includes a 2.6 million-square-foot casino and hotel resort, complemented by retail outlets, conference spaces, and an 80-story skyscraper.

It hopes to transform the train storage area west of Hudson Yards into a dynamic space featuring three skyscrapers and over five acres of public open space. The multifaceted development aims to include a casino, hotel, offices, residential units, a public school, and expansive open areas.

Jon Weinstein, a spokesman for Related, said: “We are excited to continue engaging with stakeholders across the local community as part of the city land-use process for the undeveloped railyards.”

Related hopes to use the 13-acre site it owns above the MTA’s West Side Yard to create a hub of entertainment and living, with the casino and a 1,750-room hotel serving as the focal points.

Beyond gambling and accommodation, the project seeks to offer residential and commercial spaces and public amenities, aiming for completion by 2030.

The Western Yards is ideally located directly next to Javits Center—which has recently completed a $1.5 billion expansion and is one of the busiest convention centers in the United States hosting the world’s leading conventions, trade shows and special events. Together with the Javits Center, a world-class resort on the Western Yards, it aims to create the country’s preeminent convention and entertainment district.

Located along the High Line’s northernmost portion, Hudson Yards is walking distance to all of the region’s major public transportation, including the 7-Train line, Penn Station (accessible to the LIRR, A/C/E, 1/2/3 Train lines), Moynihan Train Hall and the Hudson River Ferry.
