US – Seminole’s continue to operate betting app despite federal court ruling

By - 26 November 2021

Despite the federal court ruling invalidating its 30-year gambling compact, the Seminole Tribe of Florida has continued to accept bets via its sports betting app.

Marcellus W. Osceola, Chairman of the tribe, said: “The tribe’s online sports betting authorized by the compact is now in operation, and is generating millions in revenue per week. The tribe is using these funds to pay back the development costs for its online sports book, make revenue-sharing payments to the state and fund important tribal programs.”

Judge Dabney L. Friedrich of the US District Court in the District of Columbia, had previously ruled that the tribe’s sports betting and casino expansion deal violated federal Indian gaming legislation as it let people bet when they’re not physically on Indian Lands.. The tribe immediately filed an appeal and a ‘motion for stay pending appeal.’
