By - 25 October 2018

Three more casinos are close to launching sports betting in West Virginia according to a lottery official.

Lottery Deputy Director Doug Buffington confirmed that the Mountaineer Casino, Racetrack and Resort in Chester has paid the $100,000 annual licensing fee whilst Mardi Gras Casino and Resort and Wheeling Island are about to hold field trials of sports betting equipment.

The only two casinos offering sports betting so far are Hollywood Casino and The Greenbrier.

In the first full month of sports betting being launched at Penn National Gaming’s Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races , the state generated $7.44m in wagers with Hollywood Casino’s William Hill sportsbook taking $7.07m of the total. The Fan-Dual operated sports book at the Greenbrier Resort, a members-only facility, generated $369k, although it didn’t debut until the middle of the month.

West Virginia collected more than $198,000 from sports betting wagers in September.
