Vietnam – Banyan Tree hopeful of adding casino to Laguna Lang Co
By Phil - 28 July 2014Banyan Tree Holdings is confident that it will be granted permission from the Vietnamese government to open a casino at its existing Laguna Lang Co resort in Thua Thien-Hue.
Ho Kwon Ping, Executive Chairman of Banyan Tree Holdings, a Singapore-based resort developer, has asked local leaders to allow it to open a casino, which it says will play an important role in the development of Laguna Lang Co; Banyan Tree Holdings’ first project in Vietnam. Laguna Lang Co opened in March 2013 covering 280-hectare resort on a three kilometre beach in the Chan May region. It boasts Banyan Tree and Angsana branded hotels and spas, an 18-hole championship golf course designed by Nick Faldo, private villas and convention facilities.
Nguyen Ngoc Thien, Chairman of the Committee, has said the province supported the proposal as he thinks it would benefit the locality as well as the existing resort.
He added though that the developer would have to wait until the National Assembly changed its laws on casinos.
A spokesperson for Laguna Lang Co said that ‘any future enhancement would expand our offerings, building up Laguna Lang Co as a world-class destination in Thua Thien-Hue.it is in the very early and preliminary stages.”
Vietnam currently has 50 electronic gaming facilities and seven casinos, all of which are open to foreigners only.
