To mark its anniversary, the casino has added 28 slot new machines
France’s most successful casino, the Casino Barrière in Enghien-les-Bains, in the region of Val-d’Oise, is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year.
Opened in 1901, Casino Barrière in Enghien-les-Bains organised a week of festivities from September 21 to 27, the highlight of which took place on Saturday, September 26, with an evening combining shows, DJ sets and live performances.
The venue is the leading casino in France in terms of gross gaming revenue (GGR), generating €173.45m during the 2024-2025 financial year and welcoming 748,000 visitors. It employs 450 people and has 40 gaming tables and 193 electronic gaming stations.
To mark its anniversary, the casino also expanded its slot machine room by 185 m² and, since September 22nd, has added 28 new machines. Its total number of slot machines now stands at 539.
The casino’s history began in 1901 with the construction of the first building, shaped like a sailboat and facing the lake. This building was completely rebuilt in 1909, with the addition of a theater. Following the ban on casinos within a 100-kilometer radius of Paris in 1920, the establishment was only able to resume its gambling operations in 1931. Operated by the Barrière group since 1988, it installed its first slot machines in 2002, before undergoing a major renovation in 2005.
The casino regularly updates its offerings, adding between 25 and 50 new slot machines each year. It also serves as a pilot site for certain table games, such as Punto Banco Super Pay Equality. In the spring, it was also the first casino in the Île-de-France region to offer a craps table ( see JDC, April 23, 2026).
During the anniversary week, entry, usually priced at 18 euros, was offered free of charge to members of the Barrière Play program. An “Air Box” activity also offered the chance to win 125 gaming tickets worth 125 euros each, while a prize draw held on Saturday offered 25,000 euros worth of diamonds.
The celebrations continue in town, however. An exhibition dedicated to the establishment’s 125th anniversary is on display until October 31st in several locations in Enghien-les-Bains, with archives presented notably at the train station, the town hall and the bandstand in the rose garden.
“Celebrating the 125th anniversary of an institution recognized by players worldwide like the Enghien-les-Bains casino is a unique moment, a great source of pride for me and for all the casino teams,” said Bruno Chauvin, the casino’s general manager.
