Tsogo Sun has confirmed plans to dispose of its interest in Goldfields Casino and Entertainment Centre in Welkom, with the property classified as an asset held for sale as the South African gaming group continues to streamline its portfolio.

The operator said its board committed to the disposal during the year and, as of 31 March 2026, the transaction met the criteria to be classified as held for sale under IFRS 5. The sale remained subject to outstanding conditions at the financial year-end.

Goldfields forms part of a wider asset realisation programme that also includes the disposal of another of the group’s smallest casinos, vacant land and the remaining stake in hotel operator City Lodge. Tsogo Sun said the sales are expected to generate net proceeds of R119m from the casino and land transactions, while R215m has already been realised from the partial disposal of its City Lodge investment.

If all conditions are satisfied, Tsogo Sun’s casino estate will reduce from 15 properties to 13. The assets earmarked for disposal contributed adjusted EBITDA of R11m during the year ended 31 March 2026, underlining their relatively small contribution to the group’s earnings.
