Uruguay – Uruguay government looking for new owners for Hotel Casino Carmelo

Uruguay’s Ministry of Tourism is looking for investors to revamp the Hotel Casino Carmelo, the concession of which expires on June 30.
It has been operated for 28 years by a public limited company.

Following the coronavirus closures, the operator running the casino has handed it back to its owner, the Ministry of Tourism.

Martín Pérez , National Director of Tourism, said: “There is enormous concern. It is not just another hotel for Carmelo, nor for the department.
He is looking to prepare a public tender for the Hotel Casino Carmelo. The three-star hotel, overlooking the Rio de la Plata in Colonia, has 85 rooms and employs 30 people.
