Colombia’s Territorial Games transfer 56.1 Billion to public health sector in January

Coljuegos revealed that so-called territorial games transferred $56.117 billion pesos to the public health sector in January 2024. These include chance games (a type of lottery), lotteries, and scratch cards, which transferred $12.704 billion pesos more than the previous year. The segment that experienced the highest growth in contributions was the lottery, with an increase of 82 per cent. In January 2023, they had transferred $14.707 billion pesos, while in 2024 this reached $26.775 billion.
On the other hand, the chance game was very close to that figure, reaching a total of $26.252 billion pesos in contributions. Meanwhile, scratch cards transferred around $3.090 billion, according to Coljuegos.
“This year, we are seeing the results of the efforts we have made from the National Council of Games of Chance and Gambling (CNJSA) to provide guarantees to operators. Our goal, by the end of the year, is to once again exceed 1 trillion pesos in transfers through all modalities, including VAT,” Marco Emilio Hincapié, president of Coljuegos, said.
“We also want to highlight that territorial games have paid out approximately $158.639 billion in prizes to bettors. This demonstrates that it is worthwhile to play legally with operators,” he added.
On the other hand, Coljuegos revealed that the chance game paid out about $86.045 billion pesos in prizes, while the lottery distributed $57.679 billion and scratch cards $14.915 billion.
“We invite all Colombians to buy chances, lotteries, and scratch cards only at authorized points of sale. Playing legally helps us to continue increasing transfers to subsidize the health of citizens with limited resources,” Hincapié added.
Territorial games in Colombia are operated within specific territories or regions, typically regulated by government authorities. In Colombia, “juegos territoriales” include games such as chance, lotteries, and scratch cards.
